The Bay Holiday Village, Filey

The Bay is a premier holiday village (opens in a new window) awarded five stars by Enjoy England (opens in a new window), built on the former Butlin’s site (opens in a new window) – considered by many the jewel in Billy Butlin’s crown! Generations of holiday-makers have treasured their visits to this part of the Yorkshire coast, and we are proud to carry on that tradition in our own small way.

The holiday village offers a relaxing, peaceful, well-maintained environment. On site there are extensive wildflower meadows, scenic walks, a pharmacy, leisure centre, the John Paul Jones pub/restaurant and the Bayside Kitchen cafe, alongside a family entertainment centre.

Leisure Complex

The leisure complex includes an indoor heated swimming pool and children’s pool, along with sauna, steam room, gym, and beauty room offering various treatments, as well as an all weather tennis court. The pools, sauna, steam room, and gym – remodelled and refitted for 2018 – are free to use for guests of Clara’s Den. Many other activities (see below) are often available, but please check The Bay website (opens in a new window) for prices and current availability. You can also book and pay for these activities online (opens in a new window) prior to your arrival, should you wish.

  • Laser clay shooting
  • Archery
  • Air rifle shooting
  • Table tennis
  • Fencing
  • Fishing
  • Bicycle hire

Plus there are many activities for younger visitors, including fun Krazy Karts, treasure hunts, woodland survival, family laser tag, arts and crafts lessons, and there is an outdoor children’s play area.

Please note for bookings made between November and December 2019 the swimming pool at The Bay will be closed for repair work and refurbishment. A local alternative pool will be made available for free use for our guests (specific details to follow when available) but this is most likely to be a short drive away.

For bookings made between June and October 2019 the main pool is open, but the smaller baby pool is closed for repair work.

Meadows

The wildflower meadows and lakes are a peaceful spot to go for a walk, picnic, and observe the wildlife – and are practically on our doorstep! In early 2018 ten breeding pairs of ornamental ducks of various breeds, and two splendid-looking barnacle geese have been introduced onto the large lake along with a duck-house.

(Our apologies in advance, but unfortunately due to a newt capturing exercise being undertaken by Natural England this 2019 summer season the Meadows are not currently open to the public.)

John Paul Jones Pub and Restaurant

Our “local” is the John Paul Jones pub (opens in a new window), just 2 minutes walk from the apartment. They offer a range of hot, cold and alcoholic drinks in a traditional British pub setting with open fires and friendly staff. They also have a good selection of meals available on their well-priced menu, with cooked breakfast served daily. Their Steak and Ale pie hits just the right spot on a cold Autumn night!

The pub is family-friendly, and has free WiFi for customers as well as a pool table and big-screen TVs offering sports and news channels. Inside you’ll find comfortable seating areas, and during the warmer months there is seating outside the pub to enjoy watching the world go by.
