Bridlington Old Town 1940’s Summer Festival 2018

June is a wonderful time to visit the Yorkshire Coast, as – with summer just getting into full swing – the calendar gets jam-packed with special events for all to enjoy. June 2018 is no exception, and we’d like to hghlight and event which is bound to be a wonderful occasion – just a short drive from our holiday apartment!

Mention Bridlington to most people and they’ll say it’s just a fishing town. They couldn’t be more wrong! Bridlington has much to offer visitors – from miles of seafront promenades, to the Art Deco grandeur of the Spa, plus a wealth of eateries and seaside shops.

But our favourite part of Bridlington isn’t the sea-front, lovely though that is: it’s the Old Town, a couple of miles inland. It’s at the Old Town where, on Sunday the 10th June, you can experience the fun and nostalgia of the 1940’s Summer Festival.

This wonderful festival turns the normally sleepy Georgian high street of the Old Town into a bustling snapshot of 1940’s life – complete with musical entertainment and comedy acts such as a George Formby impersonator!

Of course, we’re travelling back to wartime years, so there’ll be parades of Home Guards, vintage and military vehicle displays, plus wonderful displays of vintage dress.

Bridlington Old Town is a fantastic, atmospheric place to visit at any time – that’s why they chose it to be ‘Walmington-on-Sea’ in the Dad’s Army film made in 2016, and many of the shop fronts have retained the look they were given for that film.

You can see the High Street prominently featured at the beginning of this trailer:
