Filey – Sunday Times’ Beach of the Year 2018

The main island of Great Britain has a coastline over 11,000 miles long – and if you include just the other main islands it’s more that 19,000 miles. That’s a lot of coast! And where there’s coast, there’s beaches.

From the surfers paradises of Cornwall to the rugged coves of Pembrokeshire; from the sweeping bays of the North West, to the wildness of Scotland. But the Sunday Times has just confirmed what we’ve known for years: that Filey is fantastic!

Filey has been named The Sunday Times’ Beach of the Year 2018, and we couldn’t be prouder. Chris Haslam’s review sums up the charm of this lovely seaside town:

Gentrification has arrived but as yet there are no hipster craft cocktail joints and Rick Stein is unlikely to ever open a fish restaurant here.

Filey doesn’t need all that because it casts a different spell: it turns you into a kid again.

What a wonderful way to describe Filey, and so true! In typical Yorkshire fashion, Filey doesn’t need gimmicks or glamour. It just quietly gets on with the job of being a wonderfully relaxing place for a traditional family seaside holiday, or a charming break for couples.

Of course, we’re biased. But with views like this, who can blame us for being incredibly proud of our Filey Bay beach.

The town and beach of Filey is just the start, though. Staying at Filey Bay puts you in the very centre of a rich variety of places to go and things to see within just a few miles. Or take a short car ride and you’ll be rewarded with a wealth of world-famous sights.

If you’d like to see if you agree with us we have availability in our beautiful one-bedroom holiday apartment. Whether you’re looking for a summer holiday or break in autumn, winter or spring, Clara’s Den at The Bay Filey will be the perfect base for your Yorkshire coast visit.
